Linux Gaming: Native vs. Wine vs. Windows 7 Performance

Linux gaming has a bright future ahead with the forthcoming Unigine games, successful indie campaigns, and many other Linux-native game titles being just out on the horizon. Right now though if you are a dedicated PC gamer looking to satisfy your entertainment appetite under Linux, more than likely you find yourself using the Wine program so that you can run many Windows programs under Linux. What is the performance impact though of using this method? Ronald McCollam: Game market redux

Earlier this year, I wrote a post about the state of the Linux game market, referencing the “Humble Indie Bundle” as a promising sign.

There’s now a second “Humble Bundle” in the works — this is a great opportunity to show the world that there is a market for paid software on Linux.  We all already know that there’s no reason Linux can’t be a good gaming platform, and that there are a number of really fantastic Free games out there.  But encouraging commercial software vendors to release games for Linux can help as well.

Last time, the support last time was strong enough to convince the developers to release the source of four of the games on offer!  Let’s see if we can get enough people involved to make something like that happen again :)
